Day in the Life of Kellianne Gray

In the next in our series of ‘getting to know the team’ at Interpump Fluid Solutions, we talk to Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Manager, Kellianne Gray about a typical day in her busy life.

What time do you get up on a typical work day and how does it normally take shape?
I like my sleep, so getting out of bed is difficult. I have 3 alarms and eventually making it out of bed at 6.30am. I then walk straight to the shower and after continue my beauty regime, my husband brings me tea at 6.50am. Once dressed and ready I grab my lunch and leave for work.

Can you share a little about your role and what it means for the business?
I currently hold 3 roles. I run the Operations for the Mobile hose division, ensuring the operation to serve customers and staff runs as smoothly as possible. I also manage the HSEQ and HR Departments.

When you get into the office, what are the normal top priority tasks?
I have a list from the day/night before of to-do’s I never managed to complete the day/night before. Once these are done, I move on to that day’s list.

How are the staff feeling at the moment in these challenging times?
Very worried and uncertain. We have not had this before, so we are learning each day how to better the day before and deal with the ever growing issue.

What’s the best part of doing a job like this?
I love Health & Safety, ensuring all my checks and paperwork are complete. It is very satisfying knowing I have done my best to ensure the safety of my team.

How does the rest of your day shape up after you’ve completed the most urgent tasks?
At the moment, it is pretty tough, very challenging and can be quite fraught.

What are the biggest challenges you are facing at work right now?
The Covid 19 outbreak, the effects it could have on our work force and the company, trying to do the right thing and follow the guidance we are given . We are trying our best to serve everyone.

How do you see Interpump Fluid Solutions developing in the coming months and year?
A lot of changes have been made for the better in the group and we were just starting to see the benefits. For instance, ensuring the work force are happy and resolving any inherited problems, meaning we have the support of the staff to enable us to get better working relationships, customers and staff, better turnarounds, improved profit margins, improved quality standards and more of a structure within the organisation.

From your perspective, what are the big opportunities?
To provide wider coverage with an excellent sales team who strive with determination. We feel we now have a team who are passionate and are ready to drive this company forward.

If you could name one thing you most enjoy about your job?
People. I love talking. I like to take the time and listen and that is the best part of my day.

What kind of time do you clock off at the end of a typical day?
In between 4.30pm and 5pm. I have commitments with my animals, Alpacas and Goats, so I try to prepare myself to leave on time, to enable me to get to the field before dark. However, if needed, I do stay on. Most nights I work from home.

How do you balance your life outside of work with a demanding job like this?
My job has got more demanding over the last 6 months due to all the changes we have had to make and my focus has been on the Operations and HR and working through H&S of a evening. However, that all said, I am happy to keep pushing forward to ensure we get the business to the place it needs to be and my family understand and hope that soon I will get more time to spend with them.
